March 2, 2019 Oglethorpe sees season come to close with 76-56 loss to No. 18 Transylvania in NCAA second round The Oglethorpe women's basketball team saw their season come to a close Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky, as the No. 18 Transylvania Pioneers had an outstanding shooting night en route to a 76-56 victory in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The Stormy Petrels finished their season 23-7, marking the best record by an Oglethorpe women's basketball team since 2009.
March 1, 2019 First round turns into Upset Central Three nationally ranked teams from the Central Region fell in the first round with Wisconsin Lutheran slogging past No. 17 Illinois Wesleyan, Oglethorpe ousting No. 23 Chicago and No. 10 Hope topping No. 21 Wheaton. Plus Baldwin Wallace won in dramatic fashion and No. 5 Trine held off Emory.
March 1, 2019 Stormy Petrels nab first NCAA tourney win since 2009, defeat No. 23 Chicago 57-51 The Oglethorpe women's basketball team won a tight, back-and-forth contest in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Friday evening, advancing to the second round for the first time since 2019. The Stormy Petrels knocked off the No. 23 Chicago Maroons 57-51 at the Clive M. Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky, improving to 23-6 on the season.
February 25, 2019 Stormy Petrels place three on All-SAA squads; Ransom earns SAA Player of the Year nod The Oglethorpe women's basketball team saw three players earn spots on the All-SAA teams released Monday by the league office and voted by the SAA coaches. Senior forward Lauren Ransom won the SAA Player of the Year award for her efforts and earned a spot on the All-SAA first team. Sophomore center Savannah LeGate took All-SAA second team honors while senior guard Bailey Charles garnered All-SAA honorable mention.
February 25, 2019 Oglethorpe receives at-large bid, will play in NCAA tournament for second straight season The Oglethorpe women's basketball team received an at-large bid from the selection committee for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Monday afternoon. The Stormy Petrels will play in the 64-team event for the second consecutive season.
February 24, 2019 Oglethorpe falls to Rhodes in SAA championship game The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell victim to a tough shooting day Sunday in the SAA Tournament championship game at the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Mississippi. They shot just 24.2 percent from the field and were 2-of-25 from 3-point range en route to a 56-41 defeat to the fourth-seeded Rhodes Lynx. The loss dropped the second-seeded Stormy Petrels to 22-6 on the season and put them in danger of missing the NCAA tournament.
