March 11, 2022AMHERST, Mass. – The top-ranked Christopher Newport women’s basketball team fell to No. 10/13 Trinity (Texas), 76-71, as the Captains’ sensational season and 43-game winning streak ended during the team’s road to a potential title. CNU concludes the season 26-1 with the neutral site loss on the campus of No. 8/9 Amherst College in LeFrak Gymnasium. Senior guard Sondra Fan finished with 25 points, just two shy of her career-high, on 9-of-21 shooting. She knocked down five triples to lead the offense for the Captains while junior Anaya Simmons added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Simmons just missed a double-double with nine rebounds and added a pair of blocked shots. -

No. 1 CNU Women's Basketball Dominates in Second Round Action; Captains Advance to Sixth Straight Sectional with 107-52 Win Over Mount St. Mary
March 05, 2022BALTIMORE, Md. – In the most dominant overall performance in Christopher Newport women’s basketball postseason history, the top-ranked Captains scored a program-high 107 points and outscored Mount St. Mary (NY) by a record 55 points in a commanding second round win during the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship. CNU advanced to the sectional round with a 107-52 victory over the Knights in the neutral site bout played at Goldfarb Gym on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. Christopher Newport imposed itself on Mount Saint Mary from the opening tip to the final buzzer, forcing 35 turnovers on one end and shooting 52.7 percent from the field on the other. The Captains nearly hit the century mark in the first three quarters while shooting over 60 percent for the first 30 minutes of action. The 107 points is tied for the 14th most in a single game in program history and is a new NCAA Tournament record for the Captains. -
