LAS VEGAS – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (7-1) won their fifth-straight game, all by double digits, after taking down Wesleyan University (Conn.) 64-31 in the first of two games at the D3hoops.com Classic.
Following a scoring drought of three minutes to begin the game Leila Hosn found Colbi Zorich inside the paint for the Bulldogs' first two points.
Redlands quickly turned those points into an 11-2 run as they took a seven-point lead, 11-4, with 70 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
During the run AJ Wick scored six points, Teagan McIlroy two, and Hosn one while Hosn, McIlroy, and Andrea Perkins all had assists.
In the first 30 seconds of the second quarter the Cardinals drew within three, but a Wick three-point play doubled the lead to six. Following a pair of Wesleyan free throws, Perkins found Alex Facelo from deep and Facelo returned the favor, finding Perkins inside for a jumper in the paint.
The Bulldogs took their first double-digit lead of the game after a 4-0 Hosn run and a defensive effort that held the Cardinals scoreless for the final three plus minutes which allowed them to take a 23-13 lead into the half.
Redlands maintained their double figure lead the entire third quarter. Olivia McIntyre gave the Bulldogs their first 20-point lead, 35-15, with 3:02 left in the quarter after she converted on a pair at the line.
In the final quarter the Bulldogs led by as many as 34. Aliyah Anderson had a quarter-high seven points while Hosn added four, Zorich and Monica Villanueva had three each, and the trio of Avery Shiring, Lily Bingaman, and Libby Oxciano had two.
Hosn finished three assists shy of a triple double as she finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Wick had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Redlands completes their non-conference and 2025 schedule tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. (noon) against Bridgewater State University.
