Andrew Hoy and Jake Rayburn made key plays down the stretch as visiting Hobart College defeated the University of Rochester, 71-61, in men's college basketball at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Wednesday evening.

Jared Seltzer scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds for Rochester. Dylan Peretz had 16 points and 17 rebounds. Sam Borst-Smith scored 12 points for the Yellowjackets (4-5).

With the score tied at 54-54, Hoy sank a three-point goal out of the left corner to put the Statesmen ahead for good, 57-54. After Seltzer made a layup for Rochester- the Yellowjackets scored 32 points in the paint -, Rayburn sank one free throw. Hoy stole the ball and drove for a layup with 4:04 left, and Rayburn tipped in his own miss on the fast break to give Hobart a 62-56 lead with 3:31 remaining.

Two free throws by Borst-Smith brought Rochester within four, 64-60, with 90 seconds to play. Trey Blanding made a layup for Hobart and the visitors sank five of six from the line in the final minute.

Rochester led by five early, 17-12, after Kevin Sheehy's fast break layup. Drescher scored on the break to ignite a 10-0 run that put Hobart ahead, 22-17, with just under eight minutes left in the first half. The lead stretched to 36-29 at halftime.

It went to nine points twice early in the second half before Rochester staged a long rally. Down 40-31 two minutes into the period, Rochester used a 9-2 run over four minutes to move within 42-40. Peretz scored seven points and Seltzer had two.

Hobart moved back in front by six, 51-45, after a pullup three-pointer by Drescher, a layup from Luke Ruddy, a layup from Dominique Fernander, and a runner in the lane by Thomas Campion.

Rochester answered with a conventional three-point play from Seltzer, two free throws by Borst-Smith, and two more from the line by Seltzer. That gave the Yellowjackets a 52-51 lead. Rehbaum sank a trey from left wing just before a driving layup from Rochester's Matt Montague. The Montague layup tied the score at 54-54 and set up the final minutes.

Notes: The victory was just Hobart's sixth in the Palestra since the building opened in the 1930-31 season. Rochester entered the game with a 45-5 advantage in the Palestra and a 57-6 edge on games played in Rochester. The Yellowjackets now lead the overall series, 105-29.
