JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Abdul Madison, `99, a 2006 inductee into the New Jersey City University Athletics Hall of Fame after a standout career for the Gothic Knights, has returned to his alma mater as an assistant men's basketball coach for the 2013-14 campaign, head coach Marc Brown has announced.

Madison, a three-time All- New Jersey Athletic Conference selection, will be serving in his first collegiate coaching position. For the past four years (2009-13), he has been a head coach for 15-16 year olds at the Athletes of Tomorrow (AOT) basketball camps.

"I'm excited because he's someone we've wanted to add to the staff for the past three years," saidBrown. "With his full-time job, he didn't have the time [before] but now he's created the time. We're happy to have him. He was a great player here—obviously a Hall-of-Famer—who played for my father. He was one of the best on-the-ball defenders to ever come out of this program."

"He obviously can help on the defensive side of things and that has been what we've concentrated on. We've been one of the top defensive programs in the conference since I've been at the helm. I'm looking for him to also help in recruiting. He knows the area, especially Essex County."

In a four-year standout career for the Gothic Knights from 1993-97, Madison proved to be among the top all-around guards in school history. The 6-foot-2 swingman scored 1,457 points (13.6 per game) and grabbed 624 rebounds (5.8 per game), while graduating as the then all-time steals leader (216). Today he still ranks in the Top 10 in school history in scoring.
