Chicago Runs Past Albion

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Chicago scored three baskets in the paint during an 11-3 run midway through the first half as it pulled away for a 66-49 victory over Albion College on the opening night of the Bill Sudeck Holiday Classic.

Anthony Wash knocked down a 3-point basket as Albion trailed 9-7 five minutes into the contest. The Britons had an opportunity to forge a tie, but missed a jumper. Albion's next two possessions resulted in a missed 3-point shot and a turnover.

Five Chicago players scored during the decisive run, highlighted by transition layups by Wayne Simon and Derrick Davis. Matt MacKenzie tacked on a basket in the paint, too. Chicago led by as many as 21 before settling for a 37-21 lead at halftime.

Albion chipped the deficit down to 10, 47-37, on Eric Evans' basket midway through the second half.

Wash was the only Briton to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Justin Beal produced nine points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Chicago's Alex Pyper, who was 4-of-9 from 3-point range, led all players with 17 points.
