Dave Singleton earned MVP honors as the Albright College men's basketball team defeated Moravian College 85-74 on Saturday to win the Wyndham-Reading Tip-Off Tournament.
Also making the All-Tournament team were senior Zach Benjamin and junior Kyle Jordan. They were joined by Moravian's D.J. Strayhorn and Cameron Cullen, along with Elms' Andre French.
Singleton filled the box score with 19 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jordan had 17 points (6-of-10) and four rebounds, while Benjamin added 15 points and six boards.
Strayhorn finished with 14 points, while Cullen had 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting and five rebounds. Garrett Johnson added 17 points and Blake English had 15 points and six boards off the bench.
Strayhorn made a nice pass to Aaron Thieme to put the Greyhounds up 4-0, but Jordan got the Lions back to within a point with an and-one.
Point guard Devin Brown tossed an alley-oop to Jordan for the lay-in as the Lion took over a 16-15 lead. Izel Dickerson converted a tough fast break bucket but Marrella answered immediately with a jumper, and Jordan came up with a thunderous block at the other end to prevent an opportunity.
English hit a tough up-and-under lay-in to put Moravian ahead 21-19, but Albright's Reuel Moore answered with a three-pointer as the lead flipped again.
Jordan made a steal in the second half and Perez released Singleton for a bucket and a 50-36 Lion advantage. Benjamin then finished off Singleton's dish as the Lions threatened to pull away.
Singleton's step-back jumper with 10-plus minutes remaining pushed the Lions' lead to 20 (64-44) and prompted a Moravian timeout. The Greyhounds cut the deficit late but couldn't get close enough to threaten Albright's second consecutive Wyndham-Reading Tip-Off Tournament win.
The Lions are 2-0 and travel to King's College on Tuesday night.
