BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille men's basketball team made their season debut at home this afternoon when they hosted SUNY-E.S.F. in the Sullivan Center.  The Mavs were dominant in every phase of the game as they cruised past the Mighty Oaks (98-36) for the win.

It was a total team effort as 15 of the16 Medaille players that registered minutes, scored points.  The Mavs set a program record for their largest margin of victory as the (62) point win today surpassed the (55) point win they had over Redeemer College on February 16, 2000.  They won that game (103-48).

The Mavs were relentless on defense as they forced SUNY-E.S.F. into (28) turnovers and turned those miscues into (30) points on the other end of the floor.  Rookie Chris Willingham matched a game high with (4) steals, giving a strong defensive effort.

The Medaille offensive assault was led by sophomore Alex Baron who led all scorers with (17) points on (6 of 7) shooting from the floor.  He also had a game high two blocked shots.  The Mavs finished with seven blocks on the afternoon.

Coming off the bench to provide a huge spark was freshman Nic DeJoe who knocked down three straight shots from behind the arc in a two minute span.  He finished with (11) points on (4 of 5) shooting from the floor and (3 for 3) from beyond the arc.

The Mavs were very unselfish on offense as (28 of 35) field goals made were assisted.  Rookie guard Erik Simmons dished out a game high seven helpers while sophomore Jammal Coleman finished with five assists in the win.

The Mavs were also dominant on the glass as they outrebounded the Mighty Oaks (51-26) which included a (32-9) edge on the boards at halftime.  The Mavs rebounding was very spread out with (13) players grabbing at least three boards.  Leading the way was Robby Seyler who pulled down a game best (6) caroms while Anthony Battaglia and Putter Brown each grabbed five boards as well.

The Mavs shot (48.6%) overall from the floor, (42.9%) from beyond the arc and (80.0%) from the free throw line.  They limited SUNY-E.S.F. to (22.6%) shooting from the floor while holding them to (0 for 12) on three point attempts.

The win starts the Mavs off at (1-0) as they head to SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday (11/20) for their first road contest of the season.  That game will tipoff at 7:00pm.
