ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Despite career-high scoring efforts from both Sean McAndrew (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) and Eric Selby (Wilmington, Del./Howard), the Wesley College men's basketball team saw its school record tying 11-game win streak come to an end.

No. 15 St. Mary's (Md.) defeated the Wolverines 83-71.  A win by the Wolverines (16-7, 12-2 CAC) would have clinched the top overall seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.  Both teams have already clinched first round byes in the six team championship.

McAndrew hit 10-of-15 field goals in the game and grabbed nine rebounds to go along with 22 points.  The scoring effort erased a career-high set just a week earlier when the junior scored 18 points in a win at Frostburg State.

Selby, a reserve freshman, scored in double figures for the first time in his career with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Unfortunately, of Wesley's top five scorers on the year, only Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy) reached double digits with 13 points on 4-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.

The Wolverines entered the contest as the top free throw shooting team in the conference, but sank an uncharacteristic 56 percent on 27 trips to the line.  The Seahawks (19-5, 13-2 CAC), meanwhile, hit 77 percent of their 26 free throw attempts.

McAndrew scored 12 of his 22 in the first half, but St. Mary's took a 37-32 lead into the break.

A pair of free throws by Sam Burum with 14:32 left in the game extended the Seahawks lead to 49-37, before a 12-3 run by the Wolverines pulled Wesley back into the game.  Selby had a hand in the final three scores of the run, scoring twice and hitting Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) for a three as the Wolverines got to with 52-49 with 12:23 to play.

Back-to-back threes by Devin Spencer halted the run and quickly built St. Mary's (Md.) back to nine points.  Wesley would not get closer than five points the rest of the way.

Both teams shot well from the floor.  Wesley shot 56 percent, while St. Mary's hit 53 percent of its field goals.

Five Seahawks scored in double figures, led by Christian McCauley with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting.  Spencer added 11 points, while James Davenport, Kyle Jarczynski and Burum each pitched in with 10.

Burum led the team with eight rebounds, while Alex Franz dished out 12 assists.

The two teams flip flop in the CAC standings as a result, with the Seahawks taking a half game lead on the Wolverines for first place.

Wesley will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday, February 16, when York (Pa.) visits Wentworth Gymnasium.
