Wesley will join the Capital Athletic Conference for 2007-08, continuing the league's reshuffling that began when CAC members Catholic and Goucher announced they were leaving to form an as-yet-unnamed new league.

"Our teams will have the opportunity to play in a very competitive conference with institutions that are similar to us academically, athletically and within our geographic region," Wesley president Scott Miller said in an announcement Thursday night.

Wesley joins Villa Julie and Hood, which have already announced their acceptance into the CAC. The remaining CAC schools are Gallaudet, Marymount, Mary Washington, St. Mary's (Md.), Salisbury and York (Pa.).

The Wolverines have been members of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference since 1998 in all sports except football.

"The move to the Capital Athletic Conference is a further demonstration of our commitment to our student-athletes," athletic director Mike Drass said. "The CAC is one of the top conferences in the country, yet member institutions have a tradition of a high level of competitiveness with outstanding students. They (the CAC) place a high priority on the well-being of the student-athlete in scheduling and in adhering to strict codes of sportsmanship. Likewise, the College has a heavy concentration of alumni and families of current students in the Capital Athletic Conference region which should result in a stronger following for our program."
