Thomas More women's coach ousted

Brumfield Assistant men's basketball coach Jeff Hetzer has taken over the women's team at Thomas More after head coach Sherri Brumfield was removed with four games remaining.

The school refused comment as to the reasons for Brumfield's removal. Thomas More is 16-5 and on the verge of its second NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons.

"Coach Connor (Terry Connor, the athletic director) told us coach Brumfield was no longer with the team, but he didn't tell us why," senior JoAnna Bess told The Cincinnati Post. "We're all kind of shocked and confused because we don't know anything. We asked a couple of times why coach isn't with us anymore, but they wouldn't tell us. I'm upset because she's the only college coach I've ever had."

Brumfield is the second successful coach to leave the bench this season. Jaime Hoffman, head coach at Montclair State, resigned Jan. 26 with the Red Hawks posting a 13-3 record at the time. Men's soccer coach Brian Sentkowski was named interim coach. The school refused to comment, but Hoffman told D3hoops.com there was no bad blood, saying, "I would like to get back into coaching as soon as I resolve my personal issues."
