IRVING, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team sprinted out to a big lead early and never looked back, rolling to a 79-46 victory and the team's 10th straight win on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 12-4 overall and remain undefeated in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 5-0.
Austin College scored the first eight points of the game and led 20-2 with 3:43 left in the opening quarter, and the 'Roos went on cruise control from there to pick up the road victory. The 'Roos held a 27-7 lead after the first quarter, and extended the margin to 42-17 on a basket by Kacie West with 2:30 left before halftime. A three from Kendra Rainey would help Austin College take a 45-24 lead into the break.
The 'Roos scored the first five points of the third quarter, and baskets by Ann Savage, Bryce Frank, and Rainey made it a 60-24 game midway through the period. Mikayla Gascich's three gave Austin College a 64-34 cushion heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Gascich would knock down another triple to make it a 73-38 game with 4:14 left to play, and Austin College would coast from there.
Austin College shot 45.8% from the field in the game and hounded Dallas into 25 turnovers, coming away with 20 steals as a team. That marks the third time in the last five games that the 'Roos have had at least 20 steals. The 'Roos also held a 45-36 advantage on the glass, and handed out 23 assists as a team.
Frank hit 8-of-10 shots on her way to 17 points and nine rebounds, adding three assists and two blocked shots. Meghan Lewis went 6-of-8 from the field to score 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while coming away with three steals, and Rainey added 11 points off the bench. Savage had seven points and handed out seven assists, adding three steals of her own in the victory.
Madilyne Borjon and Jules Oliveti each scored 11 points to lead the Crusaders, who shot just 30.4% from the field and 47.1% from the free throw line in the game.
