CHESTER, Pa. -- Da'Kquan Davis scored 24 points and Phil Pierfy added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Arcadia men's basketball team picked up its 11th straight win with a 73-66 win at Widener on Wednesday evening.
The Knights' 11th straight win tied a school record, set during the 1994-95 season, and lifted their record on the season to 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Coupled with Stevenson's loss at Hood, Arcadia now has a two-game lead in the conference standings with half the slate completed. Widener is now 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The Knights trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half and 36-34 at the break before outscoring the Pride 39-30 over the final 20 minutes. Ranked in the top 20 in the country defensively, the Knights held Widener to 33.8 percent (22-65) shooting for the game and 30.6 percent (11-36) in the second half.
A triple by Davis, one of his five on the game, to start the second half gave AU a one-point lead and the Knights led by four (43-39) by the 16:24 make when Josh Scott knocked down a pair of free throws. The Pride hung in and tied the game at 49-49 on a Jared Peters three-point play with 10:42 before the Knights took the lead for good.
Davis split a pair of free throws for a 50-49 lead. He then picked up a steal and scored in transition and Will Derr followed with a putback to make it 54-49 with 9:22 left for a five-point lead. The Scarlet & Grey kept the Pride at bay and eventually expanded their lead to 10 (65-55) with under three minutes to play on a short jumper by Pierfy.
Widener managed to stay within single digits late in the contest, but Scott, who was 9 for 10 at the line, twice knocked down a pair of charity tosses in the final 30 seconds to ice the game away.
Rebounding was even at 43 boards apiece and AU forced 12 turnovers while committing just 10. The Knights were 23 of 32 (.692) at the line, while the Pride shot 15 of 19 (.714) from the charity stripe.
For Davis, it was the sixth time this season that he recorded at least 20 points in a contest. Pierfy's double-double was his second of the season and he added three assists. Scott finished with 11 points and four boards, and Derr added seven rebounds off the bench.
Connor Laverty led the Pride with 23 points. Jalen Howard scored 12 points and added nine rebounds and three steals before fouling out, and Elijah Boyd and Jared Peters scored 11 points apiece. Pat Holden chipped in six assists.
Arcadia will look to make it 12 straight on Saturday when it hosts Lycoming at 2 p.m. The Knights defeated the Warriors 76-65 on Dec. 8.
