The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team will be on the road this week for its final two games before the start of finals, traveling to Greenville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, December 6th to face Thiel College at 7:00 p.m., and to Kalamazoo, Michigan for a 3:00 p.m. game at Kalamazoo College on Saturday, December 9th.

Case Western Reserve University will begin the week with a 2-4 overall record, following the team's 74-67 win over Adrian at home last Saturday. Included in the team's overall record in a 1-1 mark away from home, including a 1-0 record in non-neutral road contests. The Spartans are averaging 80.5 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the floor and 33.7% from long range, while allowing 88.7 points per contest. Senior forward T.J. Duckett leads the team with 13.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while freshman guards Antonio Ionadi (12.3 points per game) and Ignas Masiulionis (11.5 points per game) and sophomore forward Connor Nally (11.3 points per game) are all averaging double figure scoring totals. Sophomore forward Michael Hollis has added 6.4 points and 6.8 rebounds, while leading the team with five total blocks and 3.8 assists per game.
Head Coach Todd McGuinness is in his second season at CWRU. He has a career record of 124-93 (.571 winning percentage), which includes a seven-year stint at Hartwick College, where his teams qualified for the NCAA Championships on four occasions. McGuinness is assisted by Rudy Kirbus, Kelly Blair, Liz Hornberger, Evan Shang and Aleksandar Zivic.
Thiel will enter Wednesday night's game with an overall record of 3-2, including a 1-1 home ledger after a 57-55 win over Geneva in Greenville on Saturday. The Tomcats average 64.4 points per game on 42.1% shooting overall, including a 28.6% three-point mark, and have allowed 64.8 points per game. Thiel's leading scorer is senior guard Tyreik Burton with 15.4 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds, while senior forward Josh Lumbus has contributed 9.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
The Tomcats are under the leadership of Head Coach Tim Loomis, who has gone 269-236 during his 24-year career, which includes a 135-145 mark during the last 12 seasons at Thiel's helm. He is assisted by David Pastorkovich, John Reimold and Frank Sincek.
Wednesday's game will be the 33rd meeting all-time between the two teams, with the Spartans holding a 22-10 edge in the overall series. The Spartans and the Tomcats last played in 2009, with CWRU coming away with a 77-70 win.
Kalamazoo has opened its season with a 1-5 overall record, including a 1-2 mark at home, and will host St. Francis (Ill.) on Wednesday before facing the Spartans on Saturday. The Hornets are averaging 59.5 points per game on 38.9% shooting from the floor, including 26.8% from long range, while allowing 77.0 points per game. Senior center Jimmy Paprocki leads the team with 11.0 points per game, while senior forward Roger Hood has added 9.0 points and a team-high 3.7 rebounds per contest.
The Hornets are coached by Jay Smith, who is in his second season with the program. Smith, who's 12-year career as a collegiate head coach includes a nine-year stint at Central Michigan, has a career record of 126-188, including a mark of 8-22 with Kalamazoo. He is assisted by Kevin White and Nathan Frisbie.
This will be the fourth meeting between Case Western Reserve and Kalamazoo, with the Spartans winning each of the previous three meetings, two of which were in Cleveland and one in Kalamazoo. CWRU claimed a 118-110 victory over Kalamazoo in Cleveland on December 29, 2015, the last game between the two teams.
The Spartans are sixth in Division III and lead the University Athletic Association with 47.83 rebounds per game… CWRU also leads the UAA in total rebounds (287), rebound margin (7.2) and defensive rebounds per game (33.17)… The Spartans are second in the UAA in both three-point field goals made (58) and attempted (172)… T.J. Duckett's 18 rebounds against Thiel on Saturday marked a career-high, besting his previous career-best mark of 16 against SUNY Brockport on November 19, 2016… He added 16 points in the game for his third double-double of the season and the 14th of his career, all of which have been over the past two seasons… It was Duckett's third career double-double where his rebound total has been higher than his point total… He currently ranks 18th in school history with 423 career rebounds and fifth with a .552 career field goal percentage… Duckett leads the conference in double-doubles, rebounds per game and total rebounds… In the team's two wins this season, Duckett is averaging 25.0 points and 15.0 rebounds, while shooting 70.0% (21-of-30) from the floor… Michael Hollis has accounted for the two top-assist games by a Spartan this season, recording eight against Denison on November 21st and five against Mount Saint Joseph on November 25th… First-year players have accounted for 53.0% of the Spartans' scoring this year… The Spartans bench has outscored their opponents in four of their six games this season, and by an average margin of 6.5 points per game… The CWRU bench also has a +10.3 rebounding margin compared to opposing reserves this season… CWRU is 2-0 when it holds opponents below 33.3% shooting from three-point range… The Spartans have outrebounded their opponents in five of their six games in 2017-18.
