MILTON, Mass. -- Devin Thompson tallied all but two of his 20 points in the 2nd half as the University of New England overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to secure a 65-57 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over Curry College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 6) at Katz Gymnasium.

The result ends a three-game skid for the Nor'easters (11-10, 6-8 CCC), while the Colonels remain winless on the season at 0-21 (0-14 CCC).

Curry led by as many as nine in the 1st period, and settled on a 30-22 cushion at the break. The hosts had an eight-point advantage at the charity stripe in the frame, while UNE shot just 27 percent from the field.

The Colonels were still up 36-29 less than five minutes into the closing stanza before six straight by the Nor'easters tightened things up, and four of the next six had the visitors in front (39-38) for the first time since 4-3. Big Blue's 10-2 spurt featured five each from Thompson and Drew Coveney.

Two free throws at the 8:55 mark put UNE ahead for good (46-45), part of a 16-4 run that set a 58-49 cushion inside the final minute. Two of Thompson's four treys came during the stretch.

After Thompson, Blake Swanson added eight points for Big Blue off the bench. Gavin Dibble had six points and 13 rebounds, helping the Nor'easters to a 46-38 margin on the boards. Coveney and Matt Lettick also had six apiece. UNE made 6-of-11 attempts from deep in the 2nd, leading to 44 percent shooting in general.

James Pina registered a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds for Curry, which made just 28 percent of its field goal tries after halftime. Paul Preziosi contributed 10 points. Alex Paul and Tim Flanagan combined for 16 points and 15 caroms.

The Nor'easters are back in action Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) with a home game against Endicott College (9-5 CCC).
