FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Christian Jackson collected another 30-plus point scoring effort and Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 89-53 non-conference win over Penn State Altoona, Saturday afternoon.
Jackson led two starters in double figures as the Bobcats improved their overall record to 4-7 with their first victory in just two home games so far this season. The Lions slip to 4-5 with their third loss in the last four games.
Jackson scored 33 points, including 22 in the first half as Frostburg ran away with the ballgame early on. A 9-0 run in the opening 2:16 set the tone and the Bobcats pushed their lead to 20, 28-8, before 10 minutes had ticked off the first half clock.
Jackson hit a three-pointer at 5:24 to give FSU its largest lead of the opening, 39-10, before holding a 44-16 edge at the break.
Frostburg's lead improved to 30 points with 13:54 left in the second half and reached a game-high 43, 79-36, on a one-handed dunk from junior Robert Williams at 5:20.
The Bobcats shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field, their second best effort this season. Defensively, FSU held PSA to just 31.0 percent (18-of-58) from the floor, including just 5-of-24 (20.8%) from beyond the three-point line. Frostburg also recorded 12 steals on 18 Lion turnovers.
Jackson, who has scored at least 30 points in three of the last five games, finished 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the floor to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. He also chipped in four assists and four steals.
Senior DeSean Antoine dropped a season-high 22 points behind a season-best four three-pointers. He scored 13 points in the second stanza on 4-of-6 (66.6%) shooting.
Jordan Wells led Penn State Altoona with 17 points, but was the only player in double figures for the visitors. Mitch Moyer added eight points.
The Bobcats travel to the Randolph-Macon Coaches Classic on December 29 & 30. FSU faces Manhattanville on the 29th at a time to be determined.
