(Buffalo, NY) – The Medaille College men's basketball team used tremendous performances from a pair of seniors to hang on for a key conference win (71-65) over Pitt-Bradford. The victory is the fifth straight for the Mavs and it keeps them in the hunt for a third straight AMCC title.
It was a milestone night for senior Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) as he poured in a game high (25) points on (9 of 16) shooting. That performance earned him the distinction of becoming the eighth player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau, he now has (1,013) points in his career.
Fellow senior Joe Mogavero (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) had a monster game as he chipped in with (17) points while attacking the boards with (16) rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive glass. Mogavero also dished out a game high (4) assists en route to the win.
The Mavs were the victims of a hot shooting team in the games opening half as the Panthers connected on (51.9%) of their shots in the opening twenty minutes, carrying a (12) point lead and all of the momentum into the locker room. However, Medaille came out of the locker room with a purpose, erasing that deficit within the first eight minutes of the half and stealing momentum back.
The teams would seesaw back and forth over the games final twelve minutes but the Mavs would prove to be too much down the stretch as they hung on for the critical conference win.
