Hope's run ends in title
The 2005-06 season hinges on Dec. 2, 2005. After that date, neither Hope nor men's champ Virginia Wesleyan lost again as each ran through the rest of the season to win the Division III basketball national championships.

Hope stifled Southern Maine’s offense down the stretch and pulled away to win 69-56, capturing its first Division III women’s championship national championship since 1990. Photo gallery.

Bria Ebels, whose late three-pointer put the game out of reach, finished with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals on route to claiming the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Award. Julie Henderson added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Flying Dutch who outboarded the Huskies 52-38. Megan Myles finished her college career with 23 points and nine rebounds for USM.

Hope joins Washington U., Capital, Elizabethtown and UW-Stevens Point as the only schools to win at least two NCAA Division III basketball crowns. And the Flying Dutch are a team you have to watch to appreciate, says Mark Simon.

Joining Ebels, Henderson and Myles on the all-tournament team were Scranton’s Taryn Mellody and Southern Maine’s Ashley Marble. Also check out our All-Americans.
