DePauw
88, Wilmington 70 WILMINGTON, Ohio Wilmington's second loss of the season was a costly one as they fell 88-70 in the NCAA Tournament sectional final. DePauw used a 13-0 late in the game to pull away and improve to 25-3 on the season. The Tigers will drive 37 miles to face St. Lawrence in the Final Four in Terre Haute, Ind. Wilmington suffered its first home loss in 18 games, dating back to last season and closed its season with a 28-2 record. The Quakers held an early 3-2 advantage, before a 6-0 DePauw run gave the Tigers control of the game. DePauw would extend its lead to six points, 13-7, when Sarah MacKay nailed a 3-pointer at the 14:10 mark. Wilmington rallied to outscore DePauw, 16-8, over the next 7:30 to take a 23-21 lead. DePauw would retake the lead and a Megan Woodruff 3-pointer at the buzzer saw Wilmington trail, 36-34, at the break. DePauw would score seven of the first nine points in the second half to extend its lead to 43-36 with 16:31 remaining. Wilmington would close it to two on two more occasions before the decisive Tiger run late. DePauw would cruise in the closing minutes for the 88-70 final. Sectional MVP Sarah MacKay would score a team-high 21 points to pace DePauw. Four other Tigers would score in double figures as Katie Imborek scored 20, Dana Ferguson had 15, while Colleen Powers and Amy Argetsinger each tallied 10 points. Tara Rausch, an all-Section selection, scored a game-high 26 points to lead Wilmington. Brittany Morris scored 14 and Woodruff had 13 to round out the double figure scorers. |
