DePauw 84, Hardin-Simmons 60

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Megan Woodruff and Tara Roush each scored a game-high 23 points to lead Wilmington to an 89-81 win against Hope in an Sectional semifinal of the NCAA Division III Women¹s Basketball Championship on Friday.

Wilmington wins its 16th consecutive game moving to 28-1 on the season, while Hope ends its sseason with a 27-3 record. The Quakers will host DePauw, an 84-60 winner against Hardin-Simmons, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a bid to the National Semifinals in Terre Haute, Ind., next weekend.

After Hope posted an early 4-2 lead, Wilmington went on a 16-4 burst to take an 18-8 lead with 14:13 remaining in the first half. The Quakers extended that lead to 16 points, 29-13, on a Shari Stauffer jumper with 10:53 left in the half. Wilmington maintained its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the period with a 50-37 lead at the break. Woodruff had 14 first half points, while her and the remaining Quakers made 17 of 29 shots (58.6%) in the half.

Hope charged back in the second half outscoring Wilmington 29-16 over the first 11 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 66-66. The Flying Dutch then took their first lead since the opening minutes of the game on the ensuing possession, but held the advantage for just a minute and half as a Roush jumper at the 6:48 mark gave the Quakers the lead for good. Hope would close the gap to two points before Wilmington pulled away for the 89-81 final.

Woodruff, a junior point guard, crossed the 1,000 career point barrier and her current total of 1,010 is seventh on the Quakers' all-time scoring lists. Aside fron her and Roush¹s heroics, freshman Siobhan Zerilla contributed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore Emily Cummings hit 12 points. Hope had three players in double figures as Amy Baltmanis had 20 points, Amber Zoulek chipped in 19 and Jodi Boom had 10.
