Wilmington 82, Bethany 66

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Wilmington used double-doubles from two players to advance past Bethany in NCAA second round action with an 82-66 victory on Saturday. Tara Rausch and Siobhan Zerilla each recorded double figures in both rebounding and points in the 16-point win.

The Quakers got on the board first in the game when Rausch put back an offensive rebound before the visitors from West Virginia connected on back-to-back 3-point baskets to give them a four point lead, their largest of the game. The Quakers battled back to take the lead by one point with 12:08 remaining, and would not relinquish the advantage for the rest of the game. The Green and White used a 13-0 run in the middle of the period to push the Wilmington lead to double-digits. The Bison cut the lead to nine on two separate occasions in the first half before the hosts closed the half with an 11 point lead at 37-26.

In the second stanza the Quaker lead would grow to as many as 17 with 6:53 remaining before Bethany clawed back to cut the deficit to nine three minutes later. Nine would be as close as the Bison would come, as the Quakers ended the game on a 12-6 spurt to take home a 82-66 win.

Megan Woodruff was the game's high scorer with 17 points while also dishing out a game high five assists. Rausch scored 15 points while Zerilla and Shari Stauffer pitched in with 14 and 10 points respectively. Rausch pulled down a game high 17 rebounds as Zerilla grabbed 14 in the victory. Bethany was led by Nicole Naccarato who scored 16 points as Katie Hardie scored 11 and Kelley Richardson put in nine in the loss. Richardson pulled down a team high 10 rebounds in the game, nine of which came in the first half.

The Quakers go to 27-1 with the win while Bethany ends its season with a 22-7 record. The Green and White are next set to play on Friday, March 8, at the Sectional round of the NCAA Tournament against Hope who was victorious today over Thomas More.
