Springfield 61, Eastern Connecticut 50

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield junior guard Carah Dawe scored a team-high 15 points to power the Pride past Eastern Connecticut State 61-50 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament at Blake Arena.

Springfield (25-3) moves on to the regional semifinals against the winner of the Emmanuel-Bowdoin second round game. The game will be played on Friday, March 8 at a site and time to be determined. SC extends its school-record winning streak to 17 games and also sets a school record with 25 victories.

Senior forward Becky Kanupka, the New England Women and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Year, added 14 points and pulled down six boards for Springfield.

Trailing 42-41 with 7:52 remaining, Springfield went on a 19-9 run to close the game. SC's defense held the Warriors, who entered the game scoring 78.2 points per game, to 32% shooting (17-for-53). Dawe hit a decisive 3-pointer with 1:32 to play to give the Pride a 55-50 lead.

Sophomore forward Allison Coleman led Eastern Connecticut (26-3) with 20 points.
