Thomas More 80, Anderson 75
ANDERSON, Ind. — The most successful women's basketball season in Anderson history came to a sad end Wednesday night in the first round of the NCAA Div. III national basketball tournament as Thomas More defeated Anderson 80-75 at O.C. Lewis Gym.

The Saints hit 12 of 22 shots from 3-point range, including eight in the second half as they held off a late AU rally. Thomas More only made 13 of 44 shots from inside the arc in the game.

Monica Sands led AU with 24 points and 16 rebounds and Rachel Miller had 16 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Angel Hall was the other Raven to reach double figures, chipping in 17 points and six assists. Katybeth Gordon led the Ravens with seven assists.

Joanna Bess led Thomas More with 19 points, nine assists and four steals.

The Ravens won the battle of the boards 49-47, had a 38-20 advantage in the paint and a 21-13 lead in second chance points.

AU led for most of the first half, including its biggest lead of the game at 15-5, but Thomas More used a 7-0 run to finish the first half and lead 37-36 at the intermission.

Thomas More forced 14 first-half turnovers to get back in the game and had 16 points off turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Sands scored the first basket of the second half to give AU a 38-37 lead, but it would be the last time the Ravens had the lead.

The Saints used a 29-19 run over the next 12 minutes to take their biggest lead of the game at 66-57.

AU scored the next eight points to cut the lead to 66-65 with 6:30 left, but a three-point play by Bess pushed the Thomas More lead to four and AU never got closer than three points the rest of the way.

AU finishes the season with a 21-7 record, the HCAC regular season and post-season championships and its first NCAA national tournament berth in school history.
