Maryville 79, Savannah Art & Design 66

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville vanquished a familiar foe as the Scots defeated Savannah Art & Design 79-66 on Wednesday night in the teams' third meeting this season.

As in the previous two meetings, which both went to overtime, the game was nip and tuck throughout the entire first half of play with neither team getting much of a break away. At the close of the first half, Maryville led 35-34.

Coming out of the halftime break the game continued to be close. Around the 12:00 minute mark, the Lady Scots began to make a run at the Bees and would continue to maintain control of the contest until the final buzzer.

The Lady Scots had four players in double figures. Sophomore Hayley Smith continues to lead the scoring charge as she poured in 19 points, going 7-for-8 from the field, while adding four assists. Marquita Porter got most of her 14 points from the free throw line, hitting seven of eight. In addition, Porter had three rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Jessica Edwards had a big night, turning in a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Shandra Loveless shot 5-for-9 from the field for 13 points and had seven rebounds.

On the other side of the floor Savannah Art & Designer (19-7) only had one player in double figures. Kadace Walker had 15 points and four rebounds.

The Lady Scots advance to play DePauw in Greencastle, Ind., at 7:00 on Saturday, March 2.
