Lakeland 61, Millikin 54
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Lakeland accomplished another first by defeating visiting Millikin 61-54 on Wednesday evening to win their first-ever NCAA Tournament game. Lakeland moved its record to 26-2, a schools wins mark, while Millikin finished 19-7.

The Muskies stormed out to an 8-0 lead before the Big Blue of Millikin finally got on the board with two free throws at the 14:37 mark. It turned out to be a game of streaks as Millikin stormed back to tie the game at 20. Lakeland ended the half with a 13-5 run to take a 38-30 halftime lead.

The story of the half was Muskie senior standout Jill Dewane who had 18 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Millikin's stalwart, Kristen Kwasny tried to match her shot for shot but ended with 10 points on five of 13 attempts.

The Muskies shot a red hot 65.4% on 17 of 26 shooting while the Big Blue managed just 11 of 28 from the field in the first half. Lakeland knocked down four of six free throws while Millikin connected on five of six, otherwise the statistics were virtually even entering the half.

Millikin made some adjustments and came out clicking on all cylinders in the second half to tie the score at 44. The Big Blue took their first lead of the game at 49-48 before the Muskies ended the game on another 13-5 run.

Dewane finished with 26 points on 12 of 17 shooting but several Muskies stepped up their game due to the double-teaming of Dewane, especially in the second half. Freshman forward Jenny Clements had 14 points, while junior Andi Wilbee knocked down several big shots to add eight points on 4-for-8 shooting. Dewane led Lakeland with six rebounds and had four assists, as did Clements. Sophomore guard Chelsy Bjarnson led the Muskies with five assists.

Kwasny led Millikin with 20 points on a "Jordanesque" 10-for-26 shooting performance. There was no secret that the Big Blue was trying to get her the ball since other teammate took more than seven shots.

The Muskies shot 46.3% for the game on 25-for-54 shooting while the Big Blue finished at 41.5% on 22 of 53 shooting. Lakeland had the advantage at the line connecting on 11 of 14 free throws while Millikin knocked down six of seven. The Big blue managed to stay in the game by making four of 11 3-pointers, including three by Audrey Minott, while Lakeland was 0-for-4.

The Muskies now travel to Webster with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday. Webster advanced to the second round by defeating visiting Aurora 81-60.
