Alvernia 62, Hunter 46
READING, Pa. — Freshman reserve Kacie Androsko (left) scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Alvernia to a 62-46 win over Hunter in NCAA Tournament first round action at the Physical Education Center.

Senior forward Tanisha Giddens notched her 16th double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore Jen Sawyer added 13 points for the Crusaders (24-5). The Hawks (22-7) were led by senior Shevon Collins with 12 points and junior guard Jezel Rodriguez with 10 points. Alvernia will travel to King's College on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. second-round game with the Monarchs.

Both teams played even through the first eight minutes of play with Giddens forging the third tie of the game at 11-all converting a feed from Sawyer. Androsko dropped her first two of the game on the Crusaders next possession as Alvernia ran off nine straight points to take a 17-11 lead with 9:04 left in the first half.

The hosts pushed the lead to eight two minutes later for their largest lead of the half. Hunter came back with three straight points and eventually tied the game at 24 on a Tania Blanco layup. The Hawks took their fourth lead of the half on their next possession, but a 3 from Amanda Yost with 10 seconds to go put Alvernia up two at the half, 28-26.

Hunter retied the game twice in the first two minutes of the second half before Androsko set off a 12-0 run by the Crusaders that put them up 42-30 with 12:49 to play. Four different Crusaders scored during the five-minute run led by Androsko's four points. Hunter came back again with nine of the next 13 points to pull within five with just over nine minutes to play, but Alvernia responded with nine straight points, again sparked by Androsko, to go up 13 with 6:26 to play.

After a Collins' free throw stopped the bleeding Alvernia put the game away with six straight points again capped by an Androsko layup.
