January 9, 2014 MIT Stuns Undefeated No. 22 Wheaton, 60-59 NORTON, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the MIT women’s basketball team defeated a nationally-ranked opponent as it edged out No. 22 Wheaton College, 60-59, in a NEWMAC contest on Thursday night. Junior Mari Kordell (Ijamsville, Md.) paced the Engineers (6-6, 3-4 NEWMAC) with 17 points and added four assists and four rebounds in handing the Lyons (12-1, 7-1 NEWMAC) their first loss of the season.
February 2, 2013 Balanced Attack Powers MIT Past Mount Holyoke, 57-44 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women's basketball team saw four players reach double-digits in scoring as it defeated Mount Holyoke College, 57-44, in a NEWMAC contest on Saturday. Freshman Sabrina Drammis (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) led all scorers with 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in leading the Engineers (9-11, 5-9 NEWMAC) to their first series sweep of the Lyons. Sophomore Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass.) paced Mount Holyoke (5-14, 3-11 NEWMAC) with 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.
January 23, 2013 Second-Half Run Propels Wellesley Past MIT, 47-42 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A 19-5 run that spanned eight minutes in the second half helped power Wellesley College past the MIT women’s basketball team, 47-42, in a NEWMAC game on Wednesday night. Junior Rachel Hunt (Arlington Heights, Ill.) tallied seven rebounds, six points, six blocks, and three steals for the Engineers (7-10, 3-8 NEWMAC). Senior Malia Maier (Torrance, Calif.) produced a game-high 13 points and six steals to go along with five rebounds and four assists for the Blue (9-6, 8-3 NEWMAC) which picked up its sixth straight win.
January 19, 2013 Smith Rallies to Defeat MIT, 58-46 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Host Smith College rattled off 10 unanswered points during the final six minutes of regulation to defeat the MIT women’s basketball team, 58-46, in a NEWMAC contest on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Durva Bhandare (North Brunswick, N.J.) compiled 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and two steals for the Engineers who fell to 7-9 on the season and 3-7 in conference play.
January 12, 2013 Dominant Second Half Powers MIT Past Springfield, 53-28 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – MIT outscored Springfield College, 30-10, in the second half en route to a 53-28 win in a NEWMAC women’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon. The 25-point margin of victory is the largest for the Engineers against the Pride (2-12, 0-8 NEWMAC) and helped them improve to 7-7 on the year and 3-5 in conference action. Freshman Maya Ramachandran (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Mari Kordell (Ijamsville, Md.) both registered a game-high 12 points for MIT as Ramachandran added 12 rebounds, six blocks, and two assists.
