January 14, 2017 Porter's Career-High Leads Second Half Surge for No. 6 CNU in 63-46 Win at Penn State Harrisburg MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The sixth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team shook off a sluggish start on the road Saturday afternoon and leaned on leader Sam Porter in a career night for the junior as the Captains (15-0, 8-0) surged ahead of the Penn State Harrisburg Lions (3-12, 1-7) for a 63-46 win. Porter flipped a two-point first half effort into a career-high 22 points to carry the Captains to their 15th straight win to open the season.
January 11, 2017 No. 6 CNU Women's Basketball Improves to 14-0 With 80-44 Win Over St. Mary's (Md.) NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Behind another stifling defensive performance, the sixth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team improved to 14-0 with an 80-44 victory Wednesday night, taking down St. Mary's College of Maryland (4-10, 2-5) in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup. The Captains are now 14-0, 7-0, keeping pace atop the league standings after holding the Seahawks to just 28.4% shooting in the game.
January 4, 2017 No. 7/8 CNU Women's Basketball Improves to 12-0 With 70-51 Win at Wesley College DOVER, Del. -- Junior forward Sam Porter led a terrific night at the free-throw line for the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team, as the Captains improved to 12-0 overall and 5-0 in league play with a 70-51 road win at Wesley College (5-7, 1-4). Porter drained 15-of-17 attempts from the charity stripe, marking the most made free-throws in a game for nearly 22 years, and led an overall 22-for-27 performance for CNU as a team.
January 1, 2017 Second Quarter Spurt Leads No. 10 CNU to 11th Straight Win; Captains Down Apprentice, 61-45 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After shaking off a slow start, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team used a 24-2 run through most of the second quarter to take control and cruise to the team's 11th straight win. The Captains (11-0) closed non-conference action and opened the 2017 slate with a 61-45 victory over the Newport News Apprentice School at home on New Year's Day.
December 30, 2016 No. 10 CNU Women's Basketball Improves to 10-0 With 81-51 Win Over Virginia Wesleyan NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 10th-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team will flip the calendar to 2017 with a perfect 10-0 overall record, following an 81-51 drubbing of Virginia Wesleyan College (5-4) on Friday afternoon. The Captains are 10-0 for the third time in program history after four players finished in double figures and the dominating CNU defense forced 25 turnovers and allowed just 19 second-half points.

After a hard-fought 75-66 win on the road at Salisbury University (7-2, 3-1), the Captains improved to 9-0 overall with a 4-0 mark in conference play.
