CNU Wins First CAC Women's Basketball Title With 74-58 Win Over Mary Washington NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The top-seeded Christopher Newport women's basketball team secured the program's first ever Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon, powered by a suffocating defensive attack against #2-seed Mary Washington (23-4), downing the Eagles, 74-58. The Captains improved to 25-2 and earned the league's automatic berth into the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
February 23, 2017 No. 8 CNU Women's Basketball Rolls Into CAC Championship Game With 73-52 Win Over York (Pa.) NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The eighth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team rolled to a 73-52 win on Thursday night in the Capital Athletic Conference Semifinals, taking down #4-seeded York College of Pennsylvania (18-9). The stingy CNU defense was tough again, holding the Spartans to just 52 points while forcing 30 turnovers. With the win, CNU improves to 24-2 overall and will host the CAC Championship Game on Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 pm.
February 11, 2017 Defense Dominates for No. 8 CNU Women's Basketball in 66-32 Win Over Wesley on Senior Day NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The eighth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team moved back into a tie for first place atop the Capital Athletic Conference standings on Saturday, following a dominating defensive effort against Wesley College (7-16, 3-13). The Captains (21-2, 14-2) held the Wolverines to just 32 points, including only 11 in the second half, en route to a convincing 66-32 victory at home.
February 8, 2017 Marymount Upends No. 8 CNU Women's Basketball in CAC Action Wednesday Night, 62-48 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling to Marymount University (18-4, 12-3) by a final score of 62-48. The Captains (20-2, 13-2) slip into second place in the league standings, and now hold just a one-game edge over the Saints for third.
February 4, 2017 Big Third Quarter Leads No. 5 CNU Women's Basketball to Win at St. Mary's (Md.), 67-56 ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The fifth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team bounced back following its first loss of the season with an 11-point come-from-behind win on the road Saturday, topping St. Mary's College of Maryland, 67-56. The Captains turned a four-point halftime deficit into a double-digit second-half lead with an impressive third quarter, led by the efforts of leading scorer Sam Porter.
