March 17, 2017 No. 7/10 Captains Fall to No. 1 Amherst in NCAA National Semifinals, 66-51 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Playing in the program's second ever NCAA National Semifinals, the seventh-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team fell to top-ranked Amherst College, 66-51. Playing in front of nearly 700 fans, including a strong contingent of CNU faithful, at the Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College, the Captains ended their season with a 29-3 overall record, capping one of the finest years in program history.
March 14, 2017 Captains roommates take the next step together Sam Porter and Devon Byrd bonded the first time they met on Christopher Newport's campus. No. 7 CNU Holds Off Undefeated Ohio Northern to Advance Into Final Four ADA, Ohio -- For just the second time in the 45 years of Christopher Newport women's basketball, the Captains are headed to the Final Four! Seventh-ranked CNU punched their ticket to the National Semifinals after handing Ohio Northern University it's first loss of the season, 76-66, ending a 30-game winning streak.
March 10, 2017 No. 10 Captains Dash Into NCAA Elite Eight With 79-74 Win Over 18th-Ranked Hope College ADA, Ohio -- After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team roared back in the third quarter to take a commanding lead on 18th-ranked Hope College, and held on from there for a 79-74 victory in the NCAA Sweet 16. The Captains (28-2) move on to the program's third appearance in the Sectional Final, as they will take on undefeated hosts and 5th-ranked Ohio Northern University on Saturday night.
