ST. LOUIS — No. 1 Washington University's men rallied from a double-digit, second-half deficit to win a 74-71 overtime thriller against No. 6 Rochester on Friday night at the WU Field House.

The victory extended WU's school-record home-court winning streak to 25 games and gave WU (15-0) the outright lead with a 4-0 UAA record. The Bears also tied a club record with their 18th-consecutive UAA victory. Rochester suffered its second-consecutive loss and fell to 13-2, 3-1 UAA.

After battling to a 66-66 draw through regulation, the Bears drew first blood in overtime as Chris Jeffries scored between two defenders and added a free throw a minute later. Brian Jones hit a layup for Rochester, though, followed by a three-point play by Seth Hauben to give Rochester a 71-69 lead. Jeffries hit two free throws to tie it and picked Andy Larkin's pocket to set up a Jarriot Rook jumper to make it 73-71. Jeff Joss launched a three to tie it, but it fell short and went out of bounds to Washington U. The Bears' Matt Tabash hit one free throw and Tim Sweeney's long 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Rochester led by five at halftime, 29-24, and led by as many as 11 in the second half before a 15-3 Washington run over a five-minute stretch gave the Bears a 51-48 lead with 9:14 remaining. Washington U. would push the lead to as many as six points at 56-50, but five consecutive misses by the Bears at the free throw line allowed Rochester to climb back.

Hauben scored six unanswered points as the visitors pulled to 59-58. Barry Bryant added a free throw and Rook hit a jumper to push it back to four at 62-58, but Joss drained a 3-pointer to make it 62-61. Back-to-back buckets by Bryant and Joel Parrott restored the five-point cushion, but Jones hit two free throws and Joss hit another three to tie at 66 with under a minute to play. Both teams had shots to win it in the final minute, but neither could score as the game went to overtime.

Jeffries finished with 18 points and eight rebounds and Rook scored 17 and added 11 rebounds and three blocks for the Bears. Tabash finished with 13 points, all in the second half and overtime, and six assists and Parrott chipped in with 12 points. Hauben poured in a game-high 30 points and pulled down 19 rebounds for Rochester before fouling out in overtime. Joss and Jones both finished with 12 points.

The Yellowjackets held a 48-34 edge on the boards, but the Bears shot 62% in the second half and 45% for the game.
