Guard Tylee Thomas scored 20 points to lead Rowan past visiting William Paterson 79-55 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference home game Wednesday night.
Thomas totaled five field goals (four from 3-point range) and six free throws. He also had four assists and three steals. Forward Derek Mosley contributed with 13 points while guard Earle Agee added 13. Guard Chris Arnold scored 10 points and grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
The Pioneers were led by forward Terrance McNeal with 14 points and six rebounds. Guard Brandon Constantine and forward Keyth Hardy scored 10 apiece.
The Profs ended the Pioneers’ 13-game win streak. Rowan has an overall record of 12-3 and is 6-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. William Paterson is 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the NJAC. In the conference standings, Ramapo (8-1 NJAC) is in first place after an 84-81 win against Montclair State. William Paterson is second (7-2) followed by Montclair State (7-2) and Rowan is fourth (6-3). WPU defeated MSU in its first meeting this season.
In the first half, Rowan jumped out to an 11-point lead with a 14-3 run in the first five minutes. Thomas scored 11 of the 14 points. The Profs led by eight (14-6) at 14:46. Rowan continued to build on its lead and was ahead by 21 points (31-10) with 7:27 left in the half. In the 17-4 run, Agee contributed with four points. Rowan had its biggest advantage of the half, 22 points at 5:28 (34-12) and at the intermission, 46-24.
Thomas led the Profs with 15 first-half points while Agee added 10. Hardy scored nine points for the Pioneers. Rowan outrebounded William Paterson 22-11.
In the second half, the closest the Pioneers came was 17 points. The last time was at 15:24 (51-34) after a layup by McNeal. With 11:46 remaining, Rowan was ahead 59-40. The Profs increased their lead to 25 points (67-42) with an 8-2 run which ended at 8:29. Center Evan Johnson contributed with two layups. Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 27 points (77-50) after Mosley made a basket and a free throw on the foul at the 2:30 mark.
