Augustana went on a 15-2 run late in the second half as the Vikings ended Carthage's 14-game CCIW winning streak, 69-55 before 1,850 at the Carthage Physical Education Center.
The No. 9-ranked Redmen (9-4, 1-1 CCIW) jumped out to a 27-7 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game before Augustana went on a 27-6 run to take a 34-33 lead with 47 seconds to play in the first half. Carthage's Antoine McDaniel hit a jumper to give the Redmen a 35-34 halftime edge.
The lead changed hands a couple of times early in the second half, and Carthage's last lead was 42-41 at 15:09. The game was tied at 49-49 before the Vikings (11-3, 3-1) took the lead for good, 51-49, at 7:05.
Augustana extended the lead to 13 points, 64-51, at 2:25 when things got slightly out of hand. A technical foul on the Vikings' Adam Rue triggered a shoving incident between Carthage coach Bosko Djurickovic and Augustana coach Grey Giovanine. Both benches emptied, and both coaches were cited with technical fouls, as was McDaniel.
The game was completed without further incident, and the Vikings went on to win 69-55. Carthage shot just 7-for-36 from the floor in the second half (19.4%), missed all 15 3-point attempts, and was 6-for-17 from the free-throw line (35.3%) after halftime.
Augustana shot 48% for the game (24-for-50). Shaun Clements led the Vikings with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Joe Bauman had 13 points, while Jim Thomas chipped in 12 points.
Carthage's Antoine McDaniel had 19 points on 8-for-29 shooting, 1-for-11 from 3-point range. Rob Garnes had 12 points and six rebounds, while Theo Powell added 10 points and nine boards.
