2011-12 Farmingdale State Women’s Basketball Preview

More news about: Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team and 12th year head coach Chris Mooney look for continued success in the upcoming 2011-12 season. The Rams finished with a 20-9 record last year and fell to Mount Saint Mary in the Skyline Conference Championship game. Farmingdale State returns the core of their lineup, after graduating just one senior last season.

Highlighting the team this year will be four returning starters and a senior who missed last year due to an injury. Junior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) , a Second Team All-Conference selection, led the team in points per game (10.2), assists (100), steals (99) and minutes played (25.3 per game) in 2010-11. Rams senior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) averaged 9.2 ppg, while the team's leading rebounder - senior forward Natasha Smalls (Harlem, N.Y.) averaged 7.3 per game. Guards Jeanette Zubizarreta (Jr., Bay Shore, N.Y.), a threat from behind the arc, and Janel Monah (Sr., Westbury, N.Y.), who is returning from a knee injury, will look to control the offense again this season.

Farmingdale State opens their 23-game schedule with a non-conference game at Brooklyn College on Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. The Rams will then travel to Messiah College for the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic on November 18th-19th, before a home matchup with Baruch on November 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Other non-conference games include: Wesleyan and Oswego State at the NYU New Year's Classic on January 2nd and 3rd, along with Amherst at home on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:00 p.m.
