Davidson leads Panthers in hard-fought road win against Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Led by senior Sam Davidson with 16 points, including a three-pointer with under a minute left in the game to take the lead, the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team defeated Colorado College on the road, 60-57, Friday evening.

The Panthers move to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the SCAC, while the Tigers fall to 9-10 overall and also 5-5 in the league.

The game was a hard-fought one from the opening tip-off, with neither team ever leading by more than seven at any point. There were four ties in the first half, including the 30-30 tie at the end of the period.

The second half was even closer than the first half, with neither team leading by more than four. BSC led 56-55 with 1:14 left to play before Colorado College's Becky Luetjen went to the free throw line and sank both, putting the Tigers up 57-56. Then with 50 seconds remaining Davidson hit a three-pointer to put the Panthers back in the lead, 59-57. BSC was able to hold CC scoreless for the remainder of the game, and Davidson went to the free throw line with four seconds remaining, where she made one of two to put the Panthers up 60-57. Luetjen missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and BSC came away with the victory.

Davidson hit 5-of-10 from the field, all from three-point range. Junior Caroline King also recorded 12 points, and three different Panthers led with six rebounds apiece. Senior Kristian Moody led with four assists, Davidson led with three steals, and junior Melanie Short recorded two blocks.

BSC out-rebounded Colorado College, 36-30, and committed one less turnover with 14.

The Panthers stay on the road for their next game, taking on Hendrix College this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
