Mount Saint Vincent Overwhelms Yeshiva

More news about: Mount St. Vincent

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team coasted to a 73-22 win over visiting Yeshiva on Thursday night. Freshman Michelle Diller (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a career-high 12 points for the Mount, who snapped a three game losing streak.

Mount Saint Vincent never trailed in the contest and after an Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) fast break bucket at the 15:54 mark of the first half, the Dolphins had opened the game on a 16-0 run.

Yeshiva did not score until the 13:58 mark of the first period and was held to 29.2-percent shooting in the half. The Dolphins forced 23 turnovers before the break, scoring 28 points off of miscues and posting 34 points in the paint.

The 22 points allowed by the Dolphins in the fewest since allowing just 20 at the College of New Rochelle on November 28, 2007 in a 65-20 triumph. The Mount also surrendered just seven points in the second half, and the 20-percent that Yeshiva shot from the floor is the lowest percentage against since Yeshiva shot just 20-percent on December 29, 2007.

Mount Saint Vincent featured 12 players who scored a point in the game and, with Diller, Sage Owens (Narrowsburg, N.Y.) and Sinaly all netting double-figures. Sinaly finished with all 10 of her points in seven minutes of work in the first half.

Diller finished the game with career-highs in points with her 12 as well as in rebounds and steals. She shot 5-for-8 from the floor and hauled in four rebounds and swiped a pair of steals.

Owens also finished in double-figures for the first time in her career with 10 tallies on 3-for-7 shooting overall and 4-for-5 shooting from the free-throw line. She also secured five rebounds, collected two steals and blocked a shot.

Freshman Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out a strong night for the Mount after posting eight points and pulling down eight boards. She also blocked a pair of shots for Mount Saint Vincent. Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored eight points and led all players in the game with four assists.

As a team, Mount Saint Vincent finished the night shooting 40.5-percent from the field and dominated the glass 51-38. The team swiped 20 steals, including six from Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.), and reached 20 thefts in a game for the third time this season.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent dominated the paint, outscoring Yeshiva 42-8 inside. The defense forced 31 turnovers and scored 38 points off of those and the Mount outscored Yeshiva on the fast break 18-0.

The win gets Mount Saint Vincent back into the win column for the first time since January 14 and moves it to 5-11 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look for back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Saturday when they travel to NYU-POLY. Tip-off with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
