Plattsburgh State Wins Defensive Struggle Against Brockport

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2011)--Taylor Amarando scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists to lead the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team to a 56-42 victory Saturday over Brockport at Memorial Hall. The Cardinals improve to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference, while the Golden Eagles drop to 2-8 and 0-3 in the SUNYAC.

Amarando was nearly perfect from the field, missing just two shots in nine attempts. Nora Campbell came off the bench to contribute five points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

What's been their Achilles heel all season, the Cardinals turned the tables on the Golden Eagles this afternoon by forcing 20 turnovers into 21 points. In addition, Plattsburgh was strong near the basket by outscoring Brockport 28 to 16 in the paint.

The Cardinal defense held an opponent to its lowest points since the 2007-08 season opener when Plattsburgh pounded Hilbert, 81-32, on Nov. 17.

Desiree Fauvelle and Sarah Alwardt had eight points apiece for the Golden Eagles, who shot only 28.6 percent from the field. Ellen Story and Alwardt each had six rebounds.
