NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. - A set of nine contests for Manchester University over the first month of 2018 starts Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Game details: MU and Franklin College are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Spurlock Center on FC's campus ... Coach Gerad Good's side is 2-9 overall and is still in search of its first league victory (0-4) … Recent series history has seen the Spartans win 10 of the last 16 which includes splitting the 2016-17 edition as both teams won on their home floors.
Spartan Shorts: A rousing 86-72 victory over the University of Ozarks of Arkansas Dec. 30 saw Manchester University snap an eight-game skid and claim the consolation championship of Oglethorpe University of Atlanta, Ga.'s Holiday Inn Express and Suites tournament. Senior guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) tossed in 21 points including hitting on all three of his three-point attempts. His first 20-point-plus collegiate total was highlighted further with four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Kirby wasn't alone in double digits, though. Senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished with 17 points and grabbed four boards, and the upperclassman guard duo of juniors Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Justin Lukens (Herrin, Ill.) added ten apiece. They each dished off five assists … Kirby, who averaged 12 points, two steals and an assist over the two contests, was named all-tournament. His season average saw a jump of over a point (5.5-6.9) due to his Big Peach play … Johnson extended his run of double-digit scoring outputs to 17 straight games over the weekend, too. He's currently second in scoring in the HCAC (18.9 ppg) and is also among the top five in assists (3.7 pg – No. 5). Looking further on the conference numbers, Becirevic is part of the rebounding top 10 (5.5 pg – No. 10); and Kirby (No. 5 – 1.6 pg), senior forward Kenny Doss, Jr., (Chicago, Ill.) (No. 6 – 1.6 pg), and junior guard/forward David Stinson (Aurora, Ill.) (T-7th – 1.5 pg) are in the same area in steals.
