Mahwah, NJ:  The #8 Ramapo College men's basketball team remained undefeated in the NJAC with a 70-56 win over rival Montclair State University. The Roadrunners improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while the Red Hawks now stand at 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC
The first half was tightly contested seeing both teams take single digit leads until the Roadrunners began to pull away late in the half. Ramapo tied the game 17-17 with a three-pointer from Patrick Peterson before MSU regained the lead with a three-pointer from Myles Mitchell-White. Back-to-back made baskets from Nick Stanek started a 12-2 run that allowed the Roadrunners to take the 29-22 lead capped off with a jumper from Peterson. MSU once again closed the gap to one 29-28 with a three-pointer from Justin Porter with 3:09 left in the first half before Christopher Moseley put in a jumper and a free throw with 2:59 on the clock taking a 32-28 lead. Ramapo pushed their lead to six in the final three minutes of the half taking a 38-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Red Hawks would not go down with out a fight. They started the half on a 7-1 run tying the game for the third time 39-39. The two teams traded baskets and saw the score tied for the final time 41-41 with 16:05 left in the game. Thomas Bonacum and Jordan Zagadou each hit a jumper for the Roadrunners 45-41 with under 15 minutes to play. MSU cut the lead to one two more times in the next five minutes before Ramapo began to pull away with about nine minutes on the clock. Rob Lewis hit a basket for the Roadrunners 53-49 that started a mini 7-0 run capped off with his own free throw to take a 58-49 lead. Bonacum gave Ramapo their first double-digit lead of the game with a basket with 4:00 on the clock and a 62-51 lead. Stanek added a jumper before Bonacum sunk two free throws with 3:07 left to play 66-51 before Jovanni Chatham nailed a three-pointer for MSU 66-54. In the final 1:11 of the game the Roadrunners added four points as Peterson and Moseley put in baskets while Chatham added a pair of free throws to close out the scoring for MSU as Ramapo came away with a hard fought 70-56 win.
Ramapo saw three Roadrunners score in double-figures while Moseley led them with 18 points, nine rebounds and two blocks while Peterson added 16 points and eight rebounds. Stanek contributed with 11 points while Josh Ford and James Long led the team with four assists apiece. Ford also collected six points and five rebounds. Jordan Zagadou tallied eight points and five rebounds along with a team high three blocked shots. Ramapo shot 46% (29-62) from the floor, 11% (2-18) from the three-point line and 58% (10-17) from the free throw line. Ramapo out rebounded the Red Hawks 43-36 while the defense forced 18 turnovers that resulted in 23 points.
Mitchell-White led the Red Hawks with 13 points while Chatham and Ramis each collected nine points of their own. MSU shot 33% (20-59) from the floor, 27% (8-29) from the three-point line and 66% (8-12) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to NJAC rival Stockton University for a 3pm game.
