MAHWAH, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (1-3, 0-1 NJAC) dropped its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener to defending conference champion and fifth ranked Ramapo (2-1, 1-0 NJAC), 87-65, on the road Nov. 21.
Junior Peter Martinez (Stockton, Calif./Dublin) led William Paterson with 18 points, while seniors George Sapp(Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) and Dapo Badmos(Toronto, Canada/The Kiski School) chipped in 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
A poor first-half shooting effort by the Pioneers put the Orange and Black in a hole early. WP shot just 31 (8-26) percent from the field during the opening stanza, scoring 25 points to Ramapo's 39, trailing by 14 points at the halftime break.
It was a more balanced effort by both squads in the second period of action, but the Pioneers could not put together any significant runs to cut into the Roadrunner lead. A 12-3 Ramapo burst gave the Roadrunners a 21-point edge (61-40, 11:41), putting the game out of reach for good.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 25, when they travel to Hackettstown to battle Centenary in a non-conference showdown at 2:00 p.m.
