Manchester University second half rally falls short
LEXINGTON, KY. – A second straight resilient effort for Manchester University ended just shy of a victory Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Spartans, dropping to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 67-63 loss to Transylvania University, came back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to lead 63-62 with just under three minutes to play. However, the Pioneers had just enough for an answer, canning a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to score the final five points.
Sophomore forward Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.), garnering his second double-figure scoring game of the season, recorded a personal career high 23-point performance. He went eight-of-11 from the field and six-of-seven at the free throw line while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out a co-team high three assists. Junior forward Jon Thompson (Rushville, Ind.), concluding a 43-point week, registered 13 points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) came off the bench for a 12-point, three-rebound outing.
MU continues its schedule Wednesday, Jan. 15, with Anderson University's visit to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
NOTES: Thompson's double-figure scoring skein went to five consecutive games … Schrock's season points-per-game average rose better than a point (5.7-7) with his total.
