2011-12 CSAC Men's Basketball Awards Announced

The Colonial States Athletic Conference has announced its 2011-12 men’s basketball end of season awards. Voted upon by the conference’s 10 head coaches, these awards include Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year, as well as First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention All-Conference and the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Cabrini College (24-1/18-0 CSAC), ranked sixth in NCAA Division-III by d3hoops.com, and seeded first in the upcoming CSAC Championship Tournament, landed both the 2011-12 Player of the Year, in senior guard Cory Lemons, and 2011-12 Coach of the Year, in Marcus Kahn. This marks Lemons’ second straight conference Player of the Year honor, while it is the fourth straight Coach of the Year selection for Kahn.

Lemons (Wilmington, DE/Glasgow HS) started and appeared in 24 games during the regular season and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in seven different statistical categories. He led the league in both assists per game (6.5) and three-point field goal percentage (.444/24-for-54), while placing second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2), third in scoring (17.5 pts/gm) and free throw percentage (.830/83-for-100), fourth in steals (48), and 10th in rebounding (6.3 reb/gm).

Kahn led the Cavaliers to a perfect 18-0 mark in CSAC play, as the Cavaliers became the first conference team to run the table since the 1995-96 season, when Cabrini went 16-0.  The Cavaliers have been ranked no lower than 14th in the d3hoops.com poll this season, and enter the conference playoffs riding a 15-game winning streak.

Keystone College’s Dan Candameres (Holbook, NY/Sachem East HS) was named the 2011-12 CSAC Rookie of the Year. The 6-2 guard started all 25 games for the Giants (20-5/14-4), who earned the second seed in the upcoming conference tourney. Candameres averaged 10.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.2 rebounds during the regular season, while connecting on 49 three-point field goals and shooting at a 77-percent clip (57-for-74) from the foul line.
