Mrlik and Snyder Named To Liberty League All-Rookie Team

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 23, 2012) – The Liberty League coaches voted freshmen Johnny Mrlik and Alex Snyder of the Vassar College men's basketball team to the Liberty League All-Rookie team on Thursday.

JOHNNY MRLIK, FRESHMAN GUARD, LIBERTY LEAGUE ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Mrlik was instrumental in all of Vassar's Liberty League wins, most notably hitting the game-winning 3-pointer against St. Lawrence (58-57), scoring the final seven points against RIT (72-69), and scoring nine points in a crucial 24-8 run against Union (72-67). A three-time Rookie of the Week, Mrlik ranks 10th in the Liberty League in scoring (13.4 ppg), 17th in rebounding (4.9 rpg), 3rd in steals (1.88 spg), fifth in 3-pt FGs made (49), and ninth in the nation in free throw percentage (.888). He scored in double figure 15 times and led Vassar in scoring in eight games.

Mrlik lettered four years in basketball at St. Ignatius College Prep for head coach Rob Marcoletti. He was named SanFranPreps.com Player of the Year, averaging 18.4 points per game and leading the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) in scoring in league (17.0 ppg), three-pointers made, free-throw percentage, and free throws made with a  WCAL record 85 free throws. He earned All-WCAL honors twice, 3rd Team All-Metro Honors, and Honorable Mention All-State. He lettered four years in baseball.

ALEX SNYDER, FRESHMAN FORWARD, LIBERTY LEAGUE ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Snyder ranked 10th in the Liberty League in rebounding (5.8 rpg), 5th in offensive rebounding (2.56 rpg), and 13th in blocks (0.56 bpg). He led Vassar with in field-goal percentage (.446, minimum 3.0 made per game), third in scoring (7.9 ppg), and fourth in assists (1.8 apg). He scored in double-figures seven times, led the team in rebounding eight times and posted one double-double.

Snyder lettered all four years at Rutland High School for coach Mike Wood. He earned Vermont Coaches Association's "Dream Dozen" and 1st-Team All-State honors.
