Choctaws Pull Away from Centenary, 81-68
CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's basketball team outscored Centenary 16-6 over the last 3:21 to pick up an 81-68 victory on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Choctaws (8-14) shot 52% (29-56) from the field and shot a season-high 86% (19-22) from the free throw line in the victory.
The game was back-and-forth over the first eight minutes, but MC went on a 24-14 run to close out the half and take a 35-26 advantage into the break.
The Gents (11-10) slowly chipped away and trailed just 53-51 with 9:43 remaining. The Choctaws, however, would go 14-14 from the foul line to close out the game and pick up the win.
Sophomore Brandon Blake led the MC attack with 23 points on 9-17 shooting from the floor. Three other Choctaws scored in dobule-figures, including junior Terencio Powell who came off the bench to score 10.
Seniors Chad Jones and Trevon Malone dominated in the paint, combining for 26 points and 16 boards.
Jonathan Blount led the Gents with 21 points on 7-15 shooting, while Maxx Nakwaasah tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. The Choctaws held Nakwaasah in check as he was the second-leading scorer in the conference and only went 5-18 from the field.
The Choctaws will close out their home schedule on Saturday when they host East Texas Baptist at 3:00 p.m. It will be "Senior Day" for MC as Marlon Ester, Jones and Malone will all be honored.
