Cyclones Drop Season Opener 96-68
DALLAS, Pa. (November 15, 2011) – The Centenary College men's basketball team dropped their 2011 season opener to the Misericordia University Cougars 96-68. Despite a 12-5 run late in the second half, the Cyclones were unable to bounce back from a 56-14 halftime deficit as they start the season at 0-1.
Leading the Cyclones' offense was junior guard Warren Murphy (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) who finished the day with 18 points, including a 5-6 mark at the free throw line. Murphy also contributed with three rebounds, one steal, and one assist for the Cyclones.
Sophomore Kyle Malavasi (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) also finished the day with double-digit points for the Cyclones, contributing with 10 points, six of which were from outside the arc. Inside the paint, senior Larry Lenahan (South Amboy, N.J./South Amboy) put up nine points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Cyclones as he was perfect in his both free throw and field goal percentage.
Following the 42-point halftime deficit, the Cyclones responded in the second half, outshooting the Cougars 54-40, but were unable to turn it around before taking the loss. Centenary returns to action on Friday when they travel to Scranton, Pa. to participate in the two-day University of Scranton Tournament with tip-off starting at 5:00pm.
