Baldwin-Wallace Men's Basketball Team Defeats Waynesburg (Pa.) University; 86-76

BEREA, OHIO –  Freshman forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeats Waynesburg (Pa.) University, 86-76 , tonight (Wednesday, December 29, 2010) in a non-conference clash in the Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.  This was the first meeting between the two schools featuring the nickname "Yellow Jackets".

 With the win, B-W improved to 4-7 overall and snaps a three game losing skid. With its loss, Waynesburg falls to 4-6 overall and were led by junior Jeff Young with 20 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.  

In addition to Payne, B-W had three other players in double figures led by, freshman guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy Name) with 16 points.  Senior guard Zane Meeder (Erie, Pa./Fairview) had 13 points  while junior All-OAC point guard Promis Cabbil (Elyria) had 11 points.

In the first half, B-W opened the scoring on a layup by Payne.  The game was tied on five different occasions with the last coming, 10-10, at 12:53.  Waynesburg then used a 6-0 run to jump out to a 16-10. Waynesburg lead by as many as six points.

B-W kept chipping away at the lead trailing, 18-17, when sophomore forward Sean Rothermel (Delaware/Hayes) made a layup at the 8:35 mark.  After trailing for almost nine minutes of action, B-W regained the lead, 29-28, on a layup by Meeder.

B-W outscored Waynesburg, 9-2, over the remainder of the first half to lead, 38-30 at the intermission.

In the second half,  Waynesburg got as close as three points with 14:30 remaining as junior forward Lou Galante hit a three-pointer.  B-W increased its lead to a game-high18 points on a three-pointer by Krakowiak at the 5:22 mark.

B-W will return to action on January 3 and 4 when it travels to Kissimmee, Florida to take part in the ECAC Holiday at the Kissimmee Civic Center. The Jackets will take on Vassar (N.Y.) College on Monday, January 3 at 12:00 noon and then will face the University of Massachusetts-Boston on Tuesday, January 4 at 12:00 noon. The next home game is on Saturday, January 8 when it faces Capital University in the second game of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.

In addition, two B-W women's and men's basketball doubleheaders will be telecast on SportsTime Ohio this winter. The games are the January 29, 2011 twinbill versus Wilmington College and the Third Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" Day doubleheader versus Ohio Northern University on February 19, 2011.
