Trinity Men's Basketball Wins Golden Bears Hoop Classic In Convincing Fashion
Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain forward Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored 21 points and added eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 79-56 win over the Lesley University Lynx in the final game of the Golden Bears Hoop Classic at Western New England College this afternoon. The Bantams start the year with a 2-0 mark, while Lesley falls to 1-2 on the season.
MacDougall was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player, while classmate Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.), who scored 13 points today, was named to the All-Tournament team. MacDougall and sophomore Mick Distasio (Yarmouth, Maine) netted 21 points apiece, each connecting for five three-pointers in today's game, as Trinity shot 15-25 (.600) from behind the arch.
The Bantams held their opponent to a .366 shooting percentage. Junior Chris Applegate (High Point, N.C.) led the Bantams defensively, collecting 10 rebounds (five defensive), to go along with three blocks and a steal. Trinity outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points per game in the tournament.
Lesley had two players score in double figures, as junior John Sanchez (Carson, Calif.) netted 17 points to go along with five assists. Senior center Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both made the All-Tournament Team.
