Elizabethtown 87, Cabrini 85
WASHINGTON — Bob Porambo hit a 3-pointer from the left corner with four seconds left to lift Elizabethtown College to an 87-85 victory against Cabrini College in an Atlantic Sectional semifinal at DuFour Center on Friday.

The Blue Jays (27-2) will face Clark University here Saturday at 7 p.m for the right to go to the Division III Final Four in Salem, Va., next Friday. Clark (23-5) ended host Catholic University's season at 26-3 with a 75-72 victory.

Porambo, a 6-foot-6 senior, scored a game-high 22 points, including eight straight to rally Elizabethtown from nine down to trail 68-65 with 8:13 to go. A Porambo layup three minutes later punctuated a 19-6 run to put the Blue Jays on top 76-72.

Cabrini (19-12) went ahead 85-84 on a pair of Tim Maddox free throws at the 1:17 mark. Porambo missed a trey with just under a minute remaining, but the Cavaliers suffered a shot clock violation to give Elizabethtown the ball with 17 seconds left. Cabrini was unable to get a shot off following Porambo's fourth 3-pointer.

Rocky Parise scored 15 points and had eight assists for the Blue Jays, who had already set a school record for wins in a season. Jon English scored 14 points and tied Porambo with a game-high eight rebounds. Chad Heller added 12 points and Brian Loftus 11 points and five assists. Ian Daecher made four steals.

Kris Pittman paced the Cavaliers with 21 points, four assists and two steals. His layup off a steal and feed from Maddox gave his team a 66-57 advantage with 10:17 to play. Brian Wood recorded 17 points and five rebounds and Gary Goldman 10 points and five boards.

Parise scored 12 points in the opening half to give Elizabethtown a 41-38 lead at the break. His third 3-pointer tied the game at 70 with 7:09 remaining.

Cabrini lost despite hitting 34 of 56 (60.7 %) from the field. The Blue Jays hit just 29 of 65 (44.6 %) shots, but succeeded on 8 of 9 second-half free throws to finish 18 of 23 (78.3 %) overall. Parise, Loftus and Porambo each hit all four of their charity stripers.
