BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport Golden Eagles are one step away from the national semfinals after a 69-64 comeback over visiting Amherst. The Golden Eagle face off tomorrow evening with local rival Rochester, with the winner advancing to Salem, Va.

Sophomore Charlie Croff led the Golden Eagles, scoring 18 points, going 6-of-7 from the field and hitting a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point land. Brockport trailed 37-30 at halftime, only the sixth time that Brockport has trailed at half all season long. With the Golden Eagles down by eight with 3:28 left, senior Ricky Hollis fouled out of the game but senior Erick Mateo replaced Hollis and helped a run that pulled it out. Brockport trailed 64-56 when Hollis came in, but went on a 13-0 run to end the contest. Mateo finished the game with three steals.

Amherst was led by Adam Harper who scored 25 points for the Lord Jeffs. Pat Fitzsimons scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Amherst.

"It's all about survival, and one game at a time at this point," commented Brockport Coach Nelson Whitmore. "We get Rochester tomorrow. This will be a great thing for the East Region, to have UR and us get to this point and show how strong the East Region is."

"They forced us outside a lot," said Amherst Coach David Hixon. "They spread us out. I'm proud of my guys. We were up eight with 3:28 to go."
