Rochester 66, Williams 51
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Guards Tim Sweeney, Jeff Joss, and Gabe Perez combined for 36 points to lead Rochester to a 66-51 victory against Williams in the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

With the victory, Rochester (22-4) advances to the Sectional Semifinals on Friday, March 8, against Babson, at a site to be determined.

Tim Folan led the Ephs (22-5) with 13 points. Benjamin Coffin scored nine points and had a game-high 11 rebounds before leaving with a twisted ankle in the final three minutes.

Sweeney scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half as Rochester built a 31-17 lead. He hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute as Rochester pulled away with a 13-2 run after Williams drew within 18-15 with 5:38 left.

Michael Crotty scored four points and assisted on three other baskets in the first seven minutes of the second half to pull Williams within 35-31 with 13:00 left.

Sweeney sank an off-balance jumper in the lane and Joss added a 3-pointer to fuel a 9-0 run that pushed Rochester ahead by 13, 44-31, with 8:42 to go.

Williams defeated Cazenovia College, 121-49, on Thursday night in the first round. The Ephs set a tournament record for margin of victory.

"It was night and day defensively compared to the other night," said Folan. "Rochester played really well defensively."

The Yellowjackets, who are ranked second in the NCAA in scoring defense (58.1 ppg.), held Williams to 35.5% shooting for the game (22-for-62). Folan hit six of 14 from the field.

"Their 'threes' tend to be backbreakers," said Williams coach Dave Paulsen of the Joss trey after Williams rallied. "We told the kids 'they don't hit a lot, but when they do, it's crucial."

"They laid it on our big guys," Rochester coach Mike Neer said. "Our guards were the reason we won today."
