ASHLAND, Va. — Junior forward Jared Mills scored a team-high 20 points, pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, and earned three steals, and sophomore guard Ryan Stein added 19 points, four assists, and a game-high four steals, to lead Randolph-Macon to a 79-62 win over visiting Lycoming in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, March 2. With the victory, which puts Randolph-Macon in the Sweet Sixteen, the Yellow Jackets improve to 24-5 overall, surpassing the 23 wins of 1998-99 (23-6). The first half featured eight ties and six lead changes. With the score tied at 24-24 with 4:53 remaining in the period, back-to-back layups by Randolph-Macon senior forward Marshall Rumney put the Yellow Jackets up 28-24, and they would not trail again. Lycoming was down 34-28 with 2:38 left before the break, but the Warriors outscored Randolph-Macon 8-2 to knot the score at halftime 36-36.

Randolph-Macon came out of the locker room on fire in the second half, putting together a 17-6 run in the first 6:30 to take a 53-42 lead. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 12 points twice in the first 11:00 of the period. Lycoming did not roll over, however. Trailing 62-50 at the 8:50 mark, the Warriors went on yet another 8-2 run, and reduced the deficit to 64-58 with 7:30 remaining in the contest.

The Yellow Jackets held Lycoming to just four more points over the final 7:00, and scored 15 of the final 19 points of the contest. Stein led that surge with seven points, including two 3-pointers.
